During my second minor, Behavior Design, I was tasked with creating a card deck containing twelve cards on psychological concepts and six cards on ethics.

The purpose of this project was to introduce us to psychology and ethics, providing a foundation for the rest of the minor. At the time, we had little to no knowledge of either subject and were therefore encouraged to explore them independently.

In a dim room, an endless list of tasks
on the screen blurs together. Despite my efforts, progress seems impossible, leaving me feeling lost and overwhelmed.
I chose to do a deep dive into the emotion of sadness because it is such a powerful and complex feeling. Unlike emotions such as joy, anger, or disgust, which people often express more openly, sadness is frequently hidden. Many view it as a sign of weakness, making it harder to share or discuss. That is why I wanted to create a card deck that helps users understand their emotions better and teaches them healthy ways to cope with what they are feeling.

In my research, I came across The Atlas of Emotions, which became a key source of information for my project. I was fascinated to learn that there are more than ten distinct variations of sadness, each with its own nuances. I dedicated an individual card to each of these variations, explaining their characteristics and emotional impact.

The goal of my card deck is to encourage users to open up about their feelings, share their emotions with friends and family, and receive support in return. By fostering conversations around sadness, I hope to reduce the stigma surrounding it and help people navigate their emotions more effectively.

Nobody wants to feel sad, but we all experience it at some point. We deserve to understand our emotions, learn how to cope with them, and support others who may be struggling as well.
